Care and Maintenance

At Sanctum Sleep, exceptional craftsmanship deserves exceptional care. With the right maintenance and support, your mattress can continue to deliver the comfort, stability and refined sleep experience it was designed to provide.

To preserve the quality of your mattress and maintain your warranty, we recommend following the care and support guidelines below.

1. Mattress Rotation & Care

Regular rotation helps promote even wear across the sleeping surface and supports the longevity of your mattress.

  • Single-sided mattresses: Rotate the mattress 180 degrees, moving the head end to the foot end. Do not flip the mattress.
  • Double-sided mattresses: Rotate the mattress 180 degrees and flip it over, alternating the sleeping surfaces. Double-sided mattresses have an equivalent sleeping surface on both sides.

We recommend rotating your mattress twice during the first month after purchase, followed by monthly rotation throughout the warranty period.

2. Protecting Your Investment

A waterproof mattress protector must be used on your Sanctum Sleep mattress at all times.

A quality waterproof protector helps maintain a hygienic sleeping environment while protecting the mattress from moisture, perspiration, spills and stains. Moisture or contamination that reaches the mattress may compromise its condition and can affect your warranty eligibility.

We strongly recommend selecting a breathable, well-fitted protector that complements the comfort of your mattress without compromising its performance.

3. Choosing the Right Base

The foundation beneath your mattress plays an essential role in its comfort, performance and longevity. Every Sanctum Sleep mattress must be placed on a firm, even and adequately supportive base that allows sufficient airflow.

Our mattresses are suitable for compatible slat bases, provided the following requirements are met:

  • Consistent support: The base must remain firm, level and supportive under the combined weight of the mattress and sleepers, without dipping, bowing or sagging.
  • Slat spacing: Gaps between uncovered slats must not exceed 10 cm. Where the gaps are covered, they must not exceed 14 cm.
  • Secure construction: Timber slats must have a smooth finish to prevent damage to the mattress and must be securely fastened at both ends.
  • Centre support: Larger bed sizes, particularly Double, Queen and King, may require a centre rail and supporting leg extending to the floor to prevent sagging.
  • Air circulation: The base must allow sufficient ventilation to disperse moisture and minimise the risk of mildew. Slats wider than 14 cm may restrict airflow. Solid timber platform bases must have adequate ventilation holes.
  • Suitable firmness: Bases that are excessively soft, uneven or inadequately supportive may compromise mattress performance and longevity.

Mattresses naturally follow the contours of the surface beneath them. An unsuitable or sagging base can cause the mattress to deform, create surface wrinkling and contribute to uneven support or a sensation of rolling towards the centre.

Please note: Curved, posture or Euro slat systems are not suitable and will void your mattress warranty.

If you are unsure whether your existing bed frame, adjustable base or slat system meets our support requirements, we encourage you to contact our team before placing your mattress on the base.

4. Understanding Body Impressions

Over time, the premium upholstery and comfort layers within a new mattress naturally settle as they adapt to your body's contours. This process may result in subtle indentations known as body impressions and is a normal characteristic of mattress materials.

Within the limits outlined below, these impressions are considered normal settling rather than a manufacturing fault:

  • Pillow-top mattresses: Up to 40 mm of height loss.
  • Non-pillow-top mattresses: Up to 30 mm of height loss.

Regular rotation, appropriate support and the use of a waterproof mattress protector can help maintain your mattress in optimal condition.
